Cost:

  • Tier 1: Full 2 day workshop: $325+GST - EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Tier 2: 1 day demo/observation only: $80+GST - NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Ready to witness and learn how to control and manipulate upwards of 50-100lbs of clay?! Don’t be scared, you’ll learn all the tips and tricks required to handle HUGE amounts of clay with ease no matter your physical abilities. Let the master Peter Flanagan demystify and guide you through the process of centering, opening, pulling, and finishing huge chargers, bowls, platters and more!

Beyond throwing we will learn and discuss a variety of finishing methods including trimmimg/turning, specific coloured slip brush and trailing applications, glaze application, proper drying procedures and everything in between to get a grip on LARGE forms.

Tier 1: EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Includes all clay and tools required (although you are encouraged to bring your own tools as well), a designated wheel for you to work at during the entirety of the 2 day workshop, hands on instruction and guidance tailored to your needs, bisque firing is also included.

If you plan to take your work home with you please bring a wareboard or bat of your own. Only current members of mudlab may continue to work on their projects in studio.

You must be familiar with the basics of wheel throwing and be competent and confident working with at least 10lbs of clay on the wheel.

Tier 2: NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Enables you to observe and absorb the entirety of the first day of the workshop. Peter will be demonstrating a variety of techniques and methods to move huge amounts of clay but also providing insights and tips that are applicable to any skill level. You may take video’s and engage in conversation/questions but please be mindful of all participants, priority for Peters attention will be given to the Tier 1 participants

About Peter Flanagan:

Peter Flanagan’s practise of ceramic art has been a life long pursuit. Formal studies in art and academics began at Kootenay School of Art in the late 70’s and continued at University of Victoria. Residencies at the Banff Centre and international teaching assignments, especially in Indonesia have informed and added profound depth and perspective to his experience. Participation in exhibitions and recognition with national and international awards throughout Canada, USA, Japan and New Zealand have broadened Peter’s vision and exposure. Travels to Hong Kong and various regions of China and Taiwan have been a cultural delight to experience both historical and contemporary ceramics.
