This masterclass is intended to challenge the way you think about wheel throwing - be prepared to push your conventional understanding of clay movement. Acquire new skills and techniques not typically taught in “the west” as Master Bomun, along with his highly trained assistant, guide you through process, form, and technical comprehension. Immerse yourself and achieve an in depth understanding of how to effectively and efficiently move and shape large amounts of clay using traditional methods passed down through generations.
Experience requirement:
Participants must have experience with wheel throwing as we expect students to already be able to confidently center and throw with at least 5lbs. We will be working with between 10-20lbs of clay depending on skill level. Please email us if you are unsure your skill level is adequate but still wish to attend.
Schedule:
Day 1 (Jan 16):
Watch Master Bomun throw a massive 25lbs traditional Moon Jar and join a Q&A session, followed by hands-on student practice and 1-on-1 coaching focusing on Korean wheel-throwing techniques.
Day 2 (Jan 17):
An exclusive, advanced trimming demonstration focusing on the profile, foot, and balance of the Moon Jar, followed by intensive student practice and final coaching.
There will be a 1 hour lunch break each day, we will provide snacks and refreshments but please bring your own full lunch.
How to prepare:
Come ready to get muddy - wear comfortable clothes you can throw in. Aprons and towels are NOT provided, please bring your own if you require.
All tools and clay will be provided and are included in your registration fee, but if you have tools you would like to use, please bring them! :)
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to each days start time

This workshop is nonrefundable or exchangeable. Please ensure you can commit to the workshop as all sales are final and will not be refunded or credited under any circumstance.

About Master Bomun:
Celebrated with numerous awards and national recognitions, he first made headlines by winning the Gold Medal at Korea’s National Skills Competition at just 17 years old—a prestigious feat accomplished while competing directly against some of the finest adult potters in the country. He currently runs his own studio in Seoul where he produces and teaches people from all over the world the coveted craft of Korean ceramics.
