What happens after your event and when will your projects be done?

Well! There’s a lot to know!

TLDR: We do a lot of work and your projects will be done in 3-4 weeks :)

  1. After the piece is thrown on the wheel it’s usually left to dry for 3-4 days but it can take up to a week+ depending on the piece

  2. Once it’s reached the perfect dryness (called leather hard), it goes back on the wheel to be trimmed by hand to add shape and remove any excess thickness so it doesn’t blow up in the kiln - yikes!!!

  3. Your beautiful bowl will once again be left out to fully dry until it’s completely “bone dry” and will then be fired in the kiln for the first time. This is called a bisque firing and can reach temperatures of 2000F - HOTT!!

  4. After the first firing is done and the piece is cooled, it will be dunked in your glaze of choice and then fired for a second time in a glaze firing - Also very freaking hot!!!

  5. Once the kiln is cool and your piece can be touched.. IT’S DONE!!

Quite the process hey? Depending on a lot of factors this journey can take three to four weeks, so please be patient while your instructor works hard to finish your piece for you. You’ll receive an email with pick up instructions once your bowl is ready to go!
